Hydrorock
Hydrorock offers solutions for separating rainwater, water buffering, drainage, infiltration and irrigation by using stone wool as basis material.
Reinforced grass
100%-natural grass cover reinforced with synthetic fibers to increase the hours a play.
REINFORCED GRASS
Natural grass truly reinforced
A reinforced natural grass system is a natural turf system that combines the playing quality of natural grass with the long lifespan of artificial turf. A natural grass pitch has a playing capacity of approximately 300 hours per season. A reinforced natural grass or hybrid system pitch can easily double or even treble that. There is also less playing damage to the grass, even when used extensively. In fact, despite more frequent use, reinforced natural grass does not need any more maintenance than a standard natural grass pitch. Depending on the kind of reinforced system, it also allows for rainwater to be drained more quickly.
OUR REINFORCED GRASS SOLUTIONS
3 systems combining the best of both worlds
HYDROFIELDS ET
The versatile stabilized surface
Hydrofields ET is a carpet-based hybrid turf system with superior wear tolerance and recoverability. However, as a system it offers 2 main advantages:
- The unique backing of the artificial turf consists of a biodegradable carrier with an integrated lasting grid made of PP. The artificial grass is anchored to the grid. Once the jute backing is degraded within 4-6 weeks, the grid with the fibres remains and provides an “open” space for the roots of the natural grass to grow deep.
- It is build on a Hydrorock layer which functions as: a substantial element of the total construction, water buffer zone (up to 45 liters/m2), growing layer for natural grass.
HYDROFIELDS
3-in-1 hybrid turf system
Hydrofields is a patented hybrid system that consists of 3 main elements: a layer of sand/ substrate, reinforcement through artificial grass fibers and a growing layer. The latter making this system matchless and differentiating Hydrofields from any other hybrid system.
Hydrofields is primarily based on a growing layer of stone wool. Stonewool in the first place because it is made of basalt stones and therefore an environmentally friendly and recyclable product. Secondly, because it is stone, it offers a high stability and retains its characteristics over time. But the main reason is its water management capacity: it can buffer 90 liters/m2 of water without any effect on the dimensions and the (product and playing) characteristics.
GRASSMAX
Grass reinforcement and root stabilization
GrassMax football fields are built on a sandy base with a small addition of organic material. Sand is a fairly mobile substance, and very often football or rugby turfs are characterized by a weak root system, therefore synthetic fibers perform the function of stabilizing the sand layer and ensuring the evenness of the surface. Stitching 20 million fibers into a sand-based grass pitch ensures that water gets drained from the surface fast. The injected fibers stabilize the root zone of the pitch and thereby increase the resistance of the grass to damage. No divots, no unevenness.
The stitched fields are considered natural grass fields and fulfill the requirements of UEFA, FIFA, IRB, NFL.
HYDROFIELDS AND HYDROROCK
Why hydrofields systems are based on stone wool
There are some good reasons why we use Hydrorock’s stone wool in our hydrofields systems. Stone wool is 100% natural material made of basalt stones and therefore an environmentally friendly and recyclable product. More then 95% of the mass are inorganic, so it is completely resistant to rot, mildew, mould and bacterial growth. Hydrorock retains its characteristics over time – its durability is estimated as long as the lifetime of the installations in which they are built.
ADVANTAGES HYDROROCK
Part of the total construction
The Hydrorock panels have a load capacity of up to 8.000 kg/m2 and therefore it is a stable layer and a substantial part of the total construction of the natural grass field. Consequently, this leads to costs savings related to the overall construction (simple construction, no drainage system) and lower maintenance costs (such as efficient usage of water).
Water management system
Hydrorock can store up to 720.000 liters of water on a full size football field without any effect on the dimensions, product and playing characteristics. The fibers are cross-linked providing a slope causing the water to run off to the sides of the pitch “automatically”. Stone wool is resistant to humidity and climate impact, keeping its declared properties, shape and volume in the long term.
Airlasticity
Due to the intricate fibrous structure of Hydrorock, it holds a lot of air and consequently provides a high energy restitution. This has a positive effect on fatigue and on the physical load of the players. The effect of “feeling tired” and the risk of injury are minimized compared to conventional artificial turf system.
Growing layer for natural grass
Hydrorock stores water and provides oxygen to the root zone which are easy for natural grass to remove and therefore natural grass is not exposed to water stress. The availability of water and oxygen encourages roots to grow deep and remain safely below ground, allowing the natural grass to become strong and fully established, whereas the natural grass will grow in the rock wool and thus be even stronger.
Easy to install
Hydrofields systems with Hydrorock panels are easy to install. Especially the installation of Hydrorock can be done quickly. The panels can be adapted to any given situation and can be cut to any required shape. Even after a system has been installed it is very easy to exchange a part of the system.
Speed of installation
The Hydrorock panels are very easy to install and easy to work with and to work on. The light-weight panels can be installed manually within a short time. Once the panels are positioned, the next layer can be immediately installed without any delay. For example, a standard full-size field with artificial turf can be finished within 21 days – from the first groundworks until completion of the top layer.
Costs are lower
Hydrorock is a stable supporting layer which functions at the same time as a water management system. Consequently, the (subbase) construction of the natural grass or artificial turf field itself is more simple, more economic whereas Hydrofields is very easy to install and, for example, a conventional drainage system is not necessary anymore
End of life costs
Hydrorock is 100% natural material made of basalt stones and therefore an environmentally friendly and recyclable product. Consequently, there is no significant end of life financial liability.
